The DO Alella is located north of Barcelona, in the Maresme region along the Mediterranean Sea. The altitude at which the farm is located determines which varieties are grown, and what kind of wine is made in a particular part of the vineyard.

Currently, it occupies only a third of the surface it had when it was established in 1956, although in 1989 the territory to the slopes of the mountains near the coast widened. It covers about 600 hectares of vineyards, mostly on sandy soils of granitic origin cultivated with the most typical variety is the Pansa Xarel·lo or white and white Grenache. The most characteristic wines of this appellation are white, dry or sweet and fresh and light pink with Grenache, Merlot and pink Pansá. Finally, Alella makes a fruity and smooth red wine, being the most typical ink strain tempranillo (there called Ull de llebre). In the eighties new varieties of grapes were introduced and the production of red modernized, revealing its new potential. Parenting time established by the regulatory council for white wines Alella is 3 months in oak barrels for red and 6 months in oak barrels.
