It originated in 1678, when the UK starts to import wine from Portugal because of the shortage of French wine at the start of the wars between England and France. From that moment the Douro Valley wine began to be exported from the port of Porto and become popular in Britain. The port was the first wine in the world whose manufacturing process was subjected to regulations between 1758 and 1761, to prevent abuse of certain English buyers. Today his vineyard is the most regulated in the world. The vines are buried in terraces to avoid thus be washed away during rainy periods. Porto is made from red and white grapes, the main ones: Malvasia Preta, Mourisco Tinto, Amarela, Baroque, Cao, Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional between inks, and Codega, Gouveiro, Malvasia Fina, Malvasia Rei and Ravigato between whites. The freshly prepared oportos are all style "ruby", once aged in pipes for several years, lose color and become "tawny". The categories in which Porto is classified as follows:    Ruby Port, is a young wine, no vintage year, low cost. Oportos is one of the more "SATO" and only aged for two or three years before bottling (This is the one you used when Porto is "the house" or when invited to dinner at home one who is drinking beer or vodka with cramberry, who knows wine.). Due to its low price is the best-selling Oporto. If the label says "Reserve" or "Special Reserve", the wine has been aged for about six years and will be better and more expensive than the "Ruby". Importantly, all born Oportos Ruby, and then the process of aging and mixtures with other Oportos changing category.    Tawny Port: wines that acquire their red brown aging along with at least three to five years. Tawnies have a combination of vintage, and age matched the average age of the wines blended to produce that particular wine, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, 40 years of age.   Colheita: wines of a single harvest (not mixed with others), with a minimum of seven years aging in barrels. The label indicates the vintage year on the label.    Vintage Port: are the wines of a single harvest and mix some of the best vineyards, bottled before they disappear its strong tannins, so it requires a long period of aging in bottle, which is usually about 20 years from harvest . These wines are guards who can last 70 years or more in bottle and usually much sediment, so it is recommended decantarlos and aerate several hours before drinking. Wine is usually a strong, robust, tasty, with many tannins.    Late bottled vintage (LBV) is a single vintage wines aged in oak barrels for four to six years.   Vintage Character Port: wines from the best vintages that are aged for five years in barrels.   Crusted: wines that come from a mixture of various port wines which are aged at least four years in bottles. Not being filtered before bottling forming sediments (crust English).    White Port: wine made from white grapes. Gold wine is dry and sweet.
