Finca La Emperatriz

The Empress is a property of quality wines, known since the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris. He won one of the prizes of the contest with a wine presented by Eugenia de Montijo, Empress of France and owner of the farm at the time.

Bodegas La Emperatriz  was founded in 1996 by family Hernáiz, by becoming the Empress House, in the town of Baños de Rioja (La Rioja), with the goal of making quality wines.

The internationally recognized quality wines from Finca La Empress, dates back to 1878, winning a prize of wine competition in the 1878 Universal Exposition in Paris, with a wine presented by Eugenia de Montijo, Empress of France and owner of the property at that time, whose vineyard was considered of great quality potential.

It is located in the extreme northwest of the D.O.Ca. Rioja, between the mountains of Cantabria and Complaint, 12 km de Haro, at an altitude of 570m, allowing you to enjoy the microclimate characteristic of this area Rioja. It has an area of 101 ha, divided into plots, each with specific characteristics, depending on the age of the vines, the variety planted, the rootstock and the conduction system. Poor soil and extreme hardness, consists originadospor boulders in the Sierra erosion of demand which facilitate drainage, causing water stress in some strains. These two features, climate and soil are ideal for the maturation of Tempranillo grape variety dominant in their fields.

The brothers Eduardo and Victor Hernáiz, decided to implement a custom viticultural for each of the plots, according to their characteristics, for a range of different wines, depending on the character of the terroir from which they come.

Moreover, the winery also produces wines with grapes from different plots, with which seeks, through the blend, make balanced and tasty wines.
