Located in the north of the province of Toledo (Spain) in an area crossed by the river Alberche between the Tagus River and the Sierra de Gredos, consisting of 51 people, including Almorox, Escalona, Maqueda, Camarena, Casarrubios del Monte, Méntrida and Fuensalida itself, home of the Control Board. Scored the designation of origin in 1976, although they have traditionally made wines in this area since the fifteenth century to the nineteenth, which its main market was Madrid. The cultivated area reached 10,000 hectares of vineyards, at an altitude ranging from 200 m to 500 m. The climate is continental, with long, cold winters, sheltered from cold winds from the north and west by the Sierra de Gredos and summers are hot with very little rainfall. The field consists of granite origin sandy soil, and low lime acids. Most of the production is red wine due to the large number of vineyards planted with Garnacha, a variety of red grape which accounts for 80%, along with others like Cencibel (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and White Albillo and Chardonnay. Most whites, pinks and reds some are produced for immediate consumption, and some Crianzas. In recent years is emerging, a new generation of winemakers producing wines nice and robust fermented in vats.
