Bodegas Hispano Suizas

Bodegas Hispano Suizas created by three professionals from the world of wine: a winegrower, a winemaker and an oenologist from Switzerland and Spain, who chose Utiel-Requena and Valencia to make wines and cavas

Bodegas Hispano Suizas is a project created in El Portón (Requena) in 2006 to produce wines and cavas in the Utiel-Requena, Valencia and Cava denominations of origin, combining modern technology and the wisdom of tradition.


It is formed by three professionals with great experience in the world of wine:



  • The winemaker Marc Gerin, of Swiss origin, publicist and public relations, who deals with the image and marketing of wine.

  • Rafael Navarro, viticulturist, winemaker and winery advisor, of modern philosophy, guided by criteria of quality, care of the land and continuous innovation.

  • The winemaker of El Bierzo Pablo Ossorio, with a modern and innovative profile with a national and international trajectory forged in Spanish and Italian wineries in Argentina, passionate about pinot noir, chardonnay and, of course, bobal grape varieties, with a great work in the field of wine research and new winemaking techniques. He has been awarded several prizes, among which stand out Best Enologist of the Valencian Community in 2008 and Best Enologist rated in Spain in the Guide of the SEVI 2011.


Bodegas Hispano Suizas has an old winery, built in 1905 and restored in 2009, and with 61 hectares of its own vineyard, of which 46 hectares are located around the winery and 15 more hectares in the same area, at 500 meters of the facilities. They make wines and cavas in the Utiel Requena Denomination of Origin and in the Denomination of Origin Valencia and in the Denomination of Origin Cava using only selected grapes, picked by hand, to extract the maximum expression of aromas and flavors. They cultivate the grape varieties Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo, Bobal, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Pinot Noir and Petit Verdot, 4,000 plants per hectare, with a yield of between 6 and 8 thousand kilos per hectare (less than 2 Kilos per vine), and an annual production of less than 150,000 bottles.


The process of making their wines begins in the vineyard, applying a traditional viticulture, continues with an innovative enology, and with the names of the wines, a tribute to classical music - Improntu, Quod Superius, Bassus, Tantum Ergo - and ends in the with labels resistant to moisture, minimalist design, which combine the image of the winery with the diversity of their wines, some high-end and others more affordable to bring good wines to the whole world.


The building of the winery has different rooms for winemaking, and a small and capricious hotel with 5 rooms, to live experience related to wine. Since its recent creation it has been awarded in numerous occasions awarded, recently by the Spanish Association of Wine Journalists and Writers in 2017
