With 8,000 hectares of vineyards, with mild winters and large temperature differences between day and night, is the largest wine region of Austria. It was introduced in March 2003 as CAD (Districtus Austriae Controllatus), which has designated controls quality wines of Austria with regional characteristics. More than 600 wineries certified white wines with the grape variety Grüner Veltliner (Gruner Veltliner green means in German means "from the Valtellina", an area of the Italian Alps), a white wine, greenish-yellow light and its aromatic, which is easily recognized by its pungent flavor and fruity. Their quality is further confirmed by the numerous checks and tests which must overcome before being offered for sale as Weinviertel DAC. The bottles can be recognized by their uniform cap bearing a stylized map of the region Weinviertel.
